I'm in the library!

He he he! I've just found out that my book is in Manchester Central Library! Along with all the illustrious authors my little booklet about Elizabeth Raffald is in the library! And not just one copy, but 4! Woo hoo! Okay, I'll stop with the exclamation marks but I just can't tell you how tickled I am that I have made it into the catalogue of books at Manchester. I grew up in Manchester and have used the library extensively for so many years, and the pleasure I get from thinking that I could now borrow one of MY books from there is out of all proportion to the fact. Obviously a major ambition that I hadn't realised I had.

And of course to think that Elizabeth Raffald may now reach a wider audience is an absolute bonus. I am determined to champion her cause. It aggrieves me to think how roundly she has been ignored and consigned to history. She may not have thrown herself under a horse or endured terrible treatment at the hands of men and the law, but she was one of the vast majority of women who quietly went about their lives trying in their own ways to make life better for their families and for the things she strived to improve she deserves to be remembered.

So, don't forget, if you live in Greater Manchester, you can now go into our beautiful Central Library and on the Local History lending shelves you will find a slim volume about Elizabeth Raffald, a potted history of her life in a simple, easy to digest form. It's reference number is 027.242733APP. Enjoy!
